Fire and Life Safety Services

The Fire and Life Safety Services section conducts fire inspections on existing buildings, issues fire code and special activity permits and investigates complaints from the general public about potential fire hazard conditions. This section also acts as liaison between the suppression engine company and fire prevention bureau for residential inspections of Multi-family dwellings. Members in this section are also cross trained to operate as Staging Area Manager on an incident.

The Fire and Life Safety Services section also administers the weed abatement program and helps monitor safe clearance in the interface areas between the wild land and our communities. Members of this section also participate in a multi-agency abatement task force to abate extensive nuisance properties City-wide.

When a fire occurs, the fire is investigated by inspectors from the Fire and Life Safety Services section. The cause and origin is determined, and if arson is indicated as the cause, Vista investigators work closely with the Sheriff's Bomb/Arson unit.

The Fire and Life Safety Services section is administered by a Senior Fire Inspector.
